Woori Yallock Farm School

The students focused on the unit Maintain Cultural Places. This began in the classroom where they completed the theoretical aspects of the unit, followed by participation in the maintenance of our ‘cottage garden’ and ‘reconciliation garden’.

This included a range of tasks such as hedge trimming, leaf blowing, pruning, and removing debris. Prior to commencing the work, the students participated in a safety induction to ensure the safe operation of the petrol-powered tools as well as the identification and wearing of appropriate PPE, also relating to the Work Safely unit. Later in the day when the wind settled, we took a bike ride along the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail. The students travelled from Yarra Junction to Warburton. As we rode, we discussed the history of the old railway line and its role in transporting passengers and goods between the Upper Yarra region and Melbourne.
