Farm School

The day started in the classroom, where the students were introduced to the topic of ‘forests’.

This was followed by a trip to the forest near Powelltown. The students visited the Hackett Tree and learned about its environment and cultural significance.

While there, the students contributed to the unit Maintain Cultural Places by clearing the path of fallen branches and debris.

Next, we hiked to 7 Acre and were rewarded with stunning views towards Western Port Bay.

Our next stop was a logging coup.

The students listened to a brief history of the logging in  the region. We discussed the environmental, social, and economic value of the trees, and explored the impact of logging on the environment and local communities.

Our final stop was ‘Shiprock Picnic Reserve’, where the students appreciated the impressively large rock formations.
