A significant part of the recent development of the Mooroolbark Campus was the aim to have a ‘state of the art’ senior secondary educational facility on the site.
The Senior School encompasses the northern side of the Mooroolbark Campus, at the front of the school, alongside the main Administration wing and Library. Senior students have a dedicated area which comprises specialist classrooms for senior Physics, Chemistry and Biology, as well as Visual Arts and Media. A room devoted to the Yarra Hills TV Studio, is also available in this area. Generalist classrooms are provided for senior Maths (all studies), English and Humanities studies (Legal Studies, Business Management, History), as well as senior theoretical Physical Education classes.
Senior students also have shared access on this site to an excellent Technology facility, including Wood, Systems, Engineering, Electronics and I.T., as well as Performing Arts (Music/Drama), Foods and Food Technology and practical Physical Education in the large Gymnasium, Soccer Field and weight training facility.
VCAL and VET students also share the Senior School with the VCE classes, with school-based VCAL being undertaken in the generalist senior rooms also. VET Automotive Studies is provided for Yarra Hills’ students as well as those from other local schools, in the excellent automotive facility.
Senior students are expected to work in a mature and independent fashion and, as such, will make use of the senior study hall in the Senior School building. This area allows the students to work either independently or collaboratively during recess, lunchtime or after school, as well as during timetabled private study periods. This area also includes two dedicated conference rooms, available for small group work, or separate isolated study.
The Head of Senior School, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator and Year 11/12 Coordinator, as well as other senior staff, all have offices in the Senior area, allowing for supervision and support throughout each day for all year 11 and 12 students.
